 Hyderabad, January 25: Cyberabad Police has got another feather in its crown. It has got 2058 CCTVs unveiled by Dr M. Mahendar Reddy, DGP, and Telangana here in the city today at a function held at Gachibowli Police Station. Mahender Reddy said that they aim to provide uniform service delivery across the state using technology,  cctv footage and people help. Mahender Reddy appreciated that 1.26 cctv cameras will be increased to 2.65 lakhs by year end will help check crime rate. It is the highest ever one-time launch of CCTV Cameras in Cyberabad Police Commissionerate limits.  These cover 18 police stations and 111 communities.  Of these 2058 cameras, 1145 are installed in Madhapur zone, 405 in Balanagar zone and 508 in Shamshabad zone.  The cost of the project was put at Rs 11,32,90,000/-

            Mr. Mahendar Reddy also inaugurated 629 community CCTV Cameras of Madhapur Division and 1429 of Madhapur, Balanagar and Shamshabad Zones.  He also inaugurated 3 Camera Mounted vehicles and distributed CCTV Maintenance Kit to 19 technical persons. 

            Hyderabad has the second-highest CCTV surveillance in the world after Chennai. Hyderabad city already has 6 lakh CCTV Cameras.  Its target is to have ten lakh CCTV Cameras very soon. Cyberabad now has 1,26, 760 CCTV Cameras. These include: 18,487 Community CCTV Cameras and 1,08, 273 Nenu Saitham CCTV Cameras.

 The DGP felicitated 20 donors of community CCTV Cameras of three zones with memento and certificate.  Appreciation certificates were also given away to the best CCTV Camera Coordinators.An eye opening 10 minutes documentary on “The importance of CCTV Cameras in Crime Prevention and Detection” was screened.  The 500 plus audience were stunned seeing the unbelievable footage,  basis on which several innocents were saved from being booked.   

            Mahender Reddy said our target is to set up ten lakh CCTV cameras in Hyderabad.  He highlighted the importance of CCTVs not only establishing and proving the crime but also to safeguard the innocent and law-abiding people. One camera is equal to the work of the 100 police. Cameras do not lie.  Human witness memories may fade but CCTV evidence is very powerful and convincing. 

            Reddy said Telangana Police are on par the best in adapting the new wave of technologies and far ahead of its counterparts of any other states.  Police must always be forefront in adapting the useful and technology of the day.  Technology must be used as a force multiplier.  We took up CCTV project on war footing basis since the year 2014 he said and added that the rich never understood nor contributed to the project. It was always the poor, people on the streets and pavement dwellers who always came forward.  It was with their support first CCTV surveillance camera was put by the support of the community.  Taking inspiration from this incident, we reached this far and so much to be achieved.  CCTV is a protection shield to the innocent and law-abiding citizens, he added Mr. Reddy congratulated and appreciated the efforts of  Cyberabad Police Commissioner Mr VC Sajjanar and all the forces under him for their good job. 

            Speaking about the TS Police Road Map, Mr. Reddy said uniform service across all the 850 police stations in the state is our aim. They all must deliver the same service and give the same response.  Be it an online or Dial 100 or physical complaint, the citizens must get the same service that is my vision, he shared.

            Every citizen is police without the uniform and every police is the citizen in uniform.  So policing is the responsibility of all of us.  It is a collective effort he said. 

            He said trust is the most important factor.  90 percent of our challans are contactless and are evidence-based.  Mr. Reddy explained various efforts taken up to ensure safety and security in the state to ensure Hyderabad a truly global city. 

According to Mr VC Sajjanar, Commissioner of Police, Cyberabad,  it aims to take up the total number to 2.5 lakh CCTV Cameras by the end of this year. Addressing the gathering Mr. VC Sajjanar sought corporate companies’s help and urged them to come forward and donate generally for the CCTV project. Donations to the CCTV project according to Mr. VC Sajjanar,  falls in the gambit of CSR.  Our DGP, Shri Mahendar Reddy prevailed on the Ministry of Corporate Affairs to bring the donations under CSR.  Because of his efforts, now all the donations made to CCTV project are considered as CSR Projects, he said. 

            He also shared that the maintenance of the CCTVs is now taken up internally. We don’t have to depend on the external help.  We have 19 trained constables in these area.  They are very efficient and competent enough to handle any problems. Mr Krishna Yedula, General Secretary of SCSC–Society for Cyberabad Security Council, SCSC which was founded by the then Police Commissioner of Cyberbad Mr. Mahendar Reddy in the year 2006 is now completed 15 years and is celebrating its 15th anniversary on 29th of this month. 

            Safety and Security is not just the responsibility of the government and law enforcing authorities, but also all the stakeholders.  Prevention is always better than cure.  SCSC alone has set up 287 CCTVs and 96% of them are working efficiently.

            Mr. Bharani K. Aroll said the crime rate will come down if we invest in CCTVs. All the investors who come to the city to set up shops need to have a safe and secured environment.  He urged that we must invest more in CCTV surveillance for more effective policing.  He also urged fellow IT companies to come forward and contribute generally towards the project.

            Mr. Ramprasad of STPI lauded the efforts of police for involving the community in all its major activities.  The success of any project depends on the community participation, he said Mr. N. Ravi Kiran, Zonal Commissioner of Serilingampally GHMC saw police as more friendly now than before.  And, described the project as the need of the hour. Mr. C. Vinod Kumar said, Mr. Mahendar Reeddy has changed the face of Telangana police.  And added that Mr VC Sajjanar is the more accessible police commissioner. Mr. Gopi, Zonal Commissioner said CCTV surveillance not only play a very important role in establishing crime, nabbing the offender, but also safe guards innocent people.  The project is  very important if Hyderabad has to be transformed into a truly global city. Mr. M. Venakteshwarlu, DCP Madhapur said it was the DGP Mr. Mahendar Reddy who taught us the importance of CCTV Surveillance.  He urged donors to come forward to set up CCTVs in Kothur, Nandigama and Shahabad as not many donors come forward. Many other speakers, donors who spoke described the project as very useful and congratulated the police for their efforts. They described CCTV as the true friend, the friend who doesn’t lie. CCTV is considered as Digital Eye.
