NGT posts Telangana Secretariat row to Monday

National Green Tribunal  (NGT)  in Chennai today heard the case against demolition of Secretariat buildings in Hyderabad of Telangana state over environmental issue. 

On hearing the case on both sides,  the tribunal has posted hearing to next Monday.  The tribunal observed that it will take up the case on Monday as the case is being beard in the state high court. 

The Congress MP from Telangana,  A Revanth Reddy has filed the petition in the NGT against the state government. 

He urged the tribunal to direct the state government to stop demolition of Secretariat buildings as the centre didn’t give environmental clearance to it.  Even before getting the necessary environmental clearance, the government has taken up demolition of the Secretariat buildings. 

The MP argued that the state government is wasting about Rs 500 cr public funds on the new Secretariat.  Tate government violated environmental norms to demolish and  build huge buildings in the Secretariat.  The people and opposition parties are against the demolition of Secretariat buildings, he said. 

The high court extended the stay orders till Friday against the demolition of buildings in Secretariat. On the same issue,  assistant attorney General of the centre urged the high court to give time till Monday to submit details of environmental clearance. 

The court has posted the case to Saturday.
