Danam bemoans single community dominating Congress

Former minister Danam Nagender, who resigned from the Congress party on Friday, alleged that only a single caste was dominating in Congress and there was no representation to other sections of the people.

Speaking to the media for the first time after tendering his resignation to the Congress party here on Saturday, Danam said the former Chief Minister late Dr Y S Rajasekhar Reddy responded immediately when he complained that officers of a single community were getting promotions in the Police department. The situation changed after YSR’s demise and the activists were losing their belief towards the party, he added.

Danam said the backward and poor sections of the people were distancing themselves from the Congress due to little importance was being given to BC leaders in the party. Senior leaders D Srinivas and K Keshav Rao left the party for that reason only, he pointed out. Even former PCC president Ponnala Laxmaiah was also not getting due importance in the party and alleged that the party leaders didn’t even inform Ponnala about the meeting held at Warangal city, he said. He said he informed the same to AICC Chief Rahul Gandhi six months ago and in response, Rahul asked TPCC to submit a report in this regard.

Targeting the Congress party’s bus yatra, Danam alleged that the party was giving importance to a single community. There was no priority to leaders of other sections in the meetings of Bus Yatra, he said.
