Dr MCR HRD Institute

B P Acharya, DG, Dr MCR HRD Institute & Special Chief Secretary to Govt. inaugurated the Office of Adventure Academy of Telangana at Dr MCR HRD Institute.  B Shekhar Babu, a recipient of Tenzing Norgay National Adventure Award (at par with Arjuna Award) and Mountaineering Coach from Telangana, who scaled Mt. Mount Everest, and  Anand Kumar Sadhanapalli, who ascended Mount Everest with Kum. Malavath Poorna, was also present on the occasion.

B P Acharya said that the Adventure Academy of Telangana will help the All India Services and Central Civil Services Officers, and other Officer Trainees, who attend the Foundation Courses at the Institute, to develop a spirit of adventure, participate in Trekking in Nilgiri Hills, with a sense of confidence, and thereby understand the concepts of leadership, group dynamics, team building, decision making, etc. in their true and total frame of reference.

Acharya stated that participation in adventure sports and eco-tourism will empower the  Officer Trainees to face challenges in real life boldly, and thereby emerge as the best and the brightest civil servants. “Mere academic inputs are not enough; true and everlasting learning takes place only when it is accompanied with inputs from extra-curricular and out-door activities”, he added.

Harpreet Singh, IAS, ADG of the Institute, said that the Adventure Academy of Telangana is a not-for-profit organization. He advised the Office Bearers of the Academy to strengthen its financial base with a view to cover a larger chunk of the people of Telangana.

B Shekhar Babu stated that the Adventure Academy of Telangana does not want to confine its activities merely to urban areas. “The Academy has got ambitious plans to initiate, encourage, and develop adventure sports for the benefit of different sections of society, especially its weaker sections from rural areas, in order to bring out a broad-based change in their personality profile”, he stated and added that, contrary to the popular belief, adventure sports are useful for people coming from all walks of life rather than for a small number of people with a daredevil attitude.

B Shekhar Babu coached Kum. Malavath Poorna and  Anand Kumar Sadhanapalli, the students of Telangana Social Welfare Residential Schools, to scale Mount Everest.  The Adventure Academy of Telangana is headed by Sri Anand Kumar Sadhanapalli with  B Shekhar Babu as its Mentor and Facilitator.    The event was also attended by the Officers, Faculty, and Staff of the Institute.
