Hyderabad twin bomb blasts case

A special National Investigation Agency (NIA) court convicted two and acquitted two others in the case of Hyderabad twin blasts on Tuesday. The blasts took place at Gokul Chat and Lumbini Park eleven years ago in which 42 people were killed. Two blasts occurred at Gokul Chat eatery in Koti and the laser show auditorium at Lumbini Park at 7.45 pm on August 25, 2007. While 32 people died at Gokul Chat, 10 died at Lumbini Park. More than 68 were injured.

The two convicted are Aneeq Shafeeq and Akbar Ismail. Farooq Sharfuddin and Sadiq Israr have been acquitted.  An unexploded bomb was also recovered from Dilsukhnagar that night. The accused, who are alleged to be associated with the Indian Mujahideen, were arrested by the Maharashtra Anti-Terrorism Squad in October 2008. According to the prosecution, Aneeq Shafeeq, Riyaz Bhatkal and Akbar Ismail planted bombs. The two convicted will be sentenced on Monday.
