Supreme Court to review Sabarimala verdict in Jan, no stay on entry of women

The Supreme Court on Tuesday refused to put a stay on its September 28 verdict that allowed women of all ages to enter the Sabarimala temple in Kerala. Hearing a bunch of petitions seeking a review of the court’s verdict, the Supreme Court said it will now hear the matter on January 22 in an open court.

The Sabarimala temple will reopen for devotees from November 16. Entry of women of age 10-50 years has been traditionally banned in the temple. The review petitions were heard inside the chambers of Chief Justice of India Ranjan Gogoi.

The court said that all review petitions along with all pending applications will be heard in open court on January 22, 2019, before an appropriate bench. The bench also made it clear that the September 28 verdict will remain effective till then.
