Police refused permission for the Jana Sena marathon rally across Godavari river on the historical Dowleswara Barrage on October 15. While the top leadership of the Jana Sena, led by its chief Pawan Kalyan, planned to participate in the marathon rally, Rajahmundry Police issued notices saying that the barrage is not strong enough for conducting the rally. A few lakhs of its activists were expected to attend.
The area is decorated with the party flags to inspire the rank and file. The Jana Sena had initially planned this marathon rally on the rail-cum-road bridge from Kovvur but switched to the Dowleswaram barrage following suggestions from the experts on the strength of the rail-cum-road bridge. The party had already released campaign material for the show and was mobilising the activists from the two Telugu States.
