Navrachana’s Mass Comm students bring laurels, internships, jobs

The annual exhibition, depicts the range of their work through three years

Navrachana University, the Vadodara-based premier university which focuses on innovation and interdisciplinary education, recently organized the 3rd edition of Incipience Exhibition by the Department of Journalism and Mass Communication.

The day-long exhibition and screening of documentaries and films made exclusively by the students of the BA-Journalism and Mass Communication across all three years of the Bachelor’s Program received inspiring all-around applause.

The work of the students, be it short films, documentaries and dissertations, has been recognised nationally for their creativity.  A unique documentary, ‘Taal Aur Tarang’, a tribute of sorts to the conventional musical instrument makers of Vadodara, who have been involved in this business for generations, bagged the Best Documentary Film award in the student category of the January session of Golden Fern Film Awards.

A young group of media aficionados with impressive portfolios in a variety of fields, including journalism, marketing, photography, development communication, media semiotics and advertising came together to put together the exhibition at the Navrachana University. Besides showcasing the excellent done by the students, the annual event also aims at inculcating leadership spirits among the cohorts.

Speaking of the success of the exhibition, Prof. Pratyush Shankar, Provost, of Navrachana University, stated, “This is the third edition of Incipience and like every year, the students have demonstrated commendable skills and creativity in their work. We are aiming at training the students to be battle-ready for a future replete with challenges in an increasingly competitive world.”

Pursuing their studies, the students didn’t remain aloof from the bitter realities of life for several communities. They identified social issues, whether it’s educating children in the slums or raising awareness of the LQBTQ community’s need for education under the unique Khoj Project. What is more, the Department collaborated with the Heritage Trust to create a documentary film about the historical Central Library in Vadodara.

Dr Sandeep Vasant, Registrar, Navrachana University heaped praise on the students for their work. Dr Sandeep Vasant said, “The projects on display at the exhibition are the result of the combined efforts of the faculty and students. I’m happy that we are giving the students a platform where their work could be seen and appreciated by the media fraternity and parents.”
