Importance of Meditation for Student’s Well-Being

They say, “being student is the golden period in anyone’s life.” Well, Is this not the partial truth? If not handled well, the same golden period could also turn regretful and full of woes. Disturbances in the mental health during such crucial phase of the lifetime could also potentially lead to life-long struggles; struggling to understand own behavior, struggling to concentrate on a task, struggling to take a decision and so on.

As per a study carried out by Center for Collegiate Mental Health report, today, at-least 1 in 5 college students have similar struggles with their life owing to anxiety, depression and other mood disorders. As such, it is very critical for a student, especially during the higher education period, to develop self-discipline and habits that nurtures the overall well-being and promotes mental fitness. To be little more specific, well-being of a person refers to a state of mind that is positive.

Resultantly, people over the world feel the immense benefits of the meditation and relate their well-being with the act of meditation. Arianna Huffington, the founder of the Huffington co-relates her success story with meditation that she started since her teenage. Jeff Weiner, LinkedIn CEO, gives a simple reason for his meditation, “Just to think.” Bob Stiller, the founder of Green Mountain Coffee, not only believes in meditation for himself but recommends in to the entire team.

People in present and past have throughout advocated the benefits of meditation. Scientists reveal that the best way to experience benefits of meditation is to practice it right from early childhood and most importantly cultivate it throughout the lifetime including, secondary and higher-education levels where student attain much of their habits and behaviors. The benefits are immense.

Here are some simple steps to start ones journey with meditation:

Choosing a peaceful area: One needs a calm and quite area, devoid of vehicle honks, cell-phone beeps and online podcasts.
Concentrating on breathe: While some recite Om and other repetitive tunes, a simple way to start off mediating is to close the eyes and consciously focusing on breathing pattern.
Reading more on Meditation: Reading has a lot of impact on mind. The more ones read on meditation, the more a person would feel focused, determined and take interest towards doing it.
Taking it forward with a group activity: If starting-off needs a little push, it is never a bad idea to join meditation classes where one gets a dedicated teacher to help understand right postures to meditate.
