In the sensational honour killing of a Dalit youth Pranay in broadlight here on Friday, his wife Amrutha, accused her father, Maruthi Rao and uncle Shravan, of being responsible for the brutal killing. The woman, who learnt of her pregnancy recently, stood silent in utter shock as her hysband being hacked by an unidentified assailant.
Speaking to the media here today, Amrutha said Pranay had been warned several times earlier by her relatives for speaking to her. Amrutha said she and Pranay had met the local DSP in this regard. She said they knew each other since their VII class in school in 2011. She also said she had been beaten by her parents and her uncle for talking to the Dalit boy.
Amrutha said they got married as per Arya Samaj tradition on January 30 this year. She described how Pranay was hacked to death with a butchers stick while they were returning from a gynaecologist in Jyothi hospital. Amrutha said, “My father got Pranay killed ruthlessly. My mother used to alert me about my father’s plans to kill my husband and conducting recce for several days before the murder. My father used to know our movements every day by his mercenaries. My mother used to alert me on phone saying I was in a gold shop, beauty parlour and so on”.
Presently I am five-month pregnant. I informed my mother about this. While my mother used to ask me to care of my health, my father used to ask me to get pregnancy terminated. After Pranay’s murder, I rang up my father saying some one had hacked him. But he cut the phone saying he was not able to hear me. He also kept mum even when I told him that I was also attacked. He asked me to go to a hospital. I also informed Pranay’s father about the incident”.
Weeping continuously Amrutha said her father thought she would return home after the death of Pranay and got him killed. “But I will never go back to my father. Pranay was a good man. He was brutally killed for prestige sake. But I will stay with my in-laws and bear the child”, she asserted.
Meanwhile, Pranay’s father Balaswamy said his son married Amrutha at her insistence. He said they got married without our knowledge and I asked Amrutha’s parents to take her to their home. Balaswamy said his son was brutally murdered by the girl’s family members. However, the prime accused Maruthi Rao and her uncle Shravan are on the run.
