Donald Trump Neglecting India: Says Former US Diplomat

Donald Trump

Former US ambassador to India Tim Roemer has expressed his opinion saying that US President Donald Trump has neglected the country’s vital relationship with India unlike his predecessors George W Bush and Barack Obama. It should be noted that the former diplomat made this comments ahead of the crucial 2+2 dialogue on Thursday in New Delhi.

The twice-delayed dialogue was earlier scheduled for July 6 in Washington, but was postponed by the US, citing “unavoidable reasons”. “The future is very bright for both countries, but the United States must fully prioritize and expertly execute on this relationship,” the former diplomat Tim Roemer said in an opinion-editorial in the Foreign Policy magazine on Tuesday.

“Trump should invest his time into India, where the 2+2 talks, which start on Thursday, are a perfect opportunity to put the U.S -India partnership back in the win column”, he added. U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and Defense Secretary Jim Mattis will meet with Indian Foreign Minister Sushma Swaraj and Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman in  New Delhi tomorrow. These are first 2+2 talks between the two nations.
