Cycle Rally to create awareness on breast feeding

BirthRight by Rainbow is gynic wing of Rainbow Children’s Hospitals has organized a Cycle Rally from Gachibowli Stadium as part of its observance of World Breast Feeding Week being observed across the world from 1st August to 7th August.  The Cycle Rally was organized to promote and to create awareness among people to encourage Breast Feeding by Mother immediately after child’s birth.

Addressing those attending the rally, Dr Dinesh Kumar Chirla has explained the need for Breast Feeding by Mother immediately after delivery.  He advised mother’s to start feeding their babies immediately after the birth as the first milk that comes out with one of hour of delivery known as colostrums contains rich in protein and antibodies that will help give a baby great start.

Expressing dismay over recent figures that explain the pathetic condition in giving breast feeding, he said that in Telangana it was found that only 35 percent of mothers are giving their first milk.  He opined that awareness must be created so that this percentage can be improved in the state.

He also advised the mothers to set aside several misconceptions that exist in their mind over breast feeding.  Stating that one such misconception is milk came in first hour is quite thick and in yellowish colour is not good for baby, he advised mothers to remove such misconceptions.  He advised mothers to continue the feeding as long as they are allowed to do.

Further adding to it, he explained that breast feeding will reduce the chance of getting cancer and will also allow a pregnant women’s body to restore normalcy after delivery.  He also said that breast milk will improve IQ of baby and also develops immune system that can fight with allergies and other diseases.

The rally that was flagged off by Dr Dinesh Kumar Chirla, Director, Rainbow Children’s Hospital at 6 AM in Sunday morning at Parking of Gachibowli Stadium was attended by Cycling Enthusiasts, Staff Members of Rainbow Children’s Hospital that includes their family members.  Cyclists depending upon their choice have participated in rally that was organized in two groups as one for 10 Kms and another for 5 Kms.
