earthquake in Japan

Several people have died and more than 100 injured after a deadly quake struck Japan on Thursday. A large earthquake has struck Japan’s biggest northern island, Hokkaido, collapsing buildings and damaging critical infrastructure. Officials said the intensity of earthquake was 6.7 on Richter scale.

At least seven people were killed, 33 missing, 120 injured in the earthquake. The quake triggered landslides on the island of Hokkaido.  Rescue teams rushed to unearth survivors and restore power. Residents in Sapporo were shaken from their beds when the magnitude 6.7 earthquake struck their place at 3:08 am. Cities are going dark as the quake disabled power systems, leaving nearly 3 million households on the island without electricity. Airports and many roads on the island were closed and trains were idled by the power failure.
