140 crore people in the world lack exercise

In spite of repeated reminders about the importance of physical exercise in the prevention of lifestyle-related diseases, 140 crore people in the world are ignoring physical activity and regular exercise.  More than a quarter of people worldwide – 140 crore- are at a risk of deadly diseases due to lack of physical exercise. Physical inactivity is linked to an increased risk of serious health conditions, including heart disease, diabetes, obesity, and some cancers.

The WHO report  revealed that more than 35 percent of people in India are insufficiently active. The data showed that nearly 50 percent women and 25 percent men in India were insufficiently active in 2016. Women tend to be more sedentary than men in almost every region throughout the world. India, along with Bangladesh, Eritrea, Iraq and the Philippines, is among the countries with the highest gender gap exercise. For most adults, health experts recommend doing at least 150 minutes of moderate aerobic activity or 75 minutes of vigorous aerobic activity per week.

Moderate aerobic exercises include walking fast, hiking, riding a bike on level ground, etc. Vigorous aerobic activities are jogging, running, riding a bike fast or on hills, playing football, etc. The famous ‘Lancet Public Health’ magazine published these study details in its latest edition.
