Music exists across all borders and all generations. It is a way of expressing and communicating which contributes to a better mutual understanding between people and their different cultures. World Music Day celebrates music in all its forms and the impact it’s had on the world and the human spirit.
Music has existed for as long as mankind has found its voice, and quite possibly before. Every culture of the world has it’s own form of music, as distinct and unique to its area as language and cuisine.
“At the outset, I would like to wish all music lovers and fellow musicians a very happy World Music Day. This is a day to not just celebrate music but also ensure that we create more opportunities for the musicians of tomorrow. Music as a subject must be introduced in all institutions so that those who wish to pursue this art get an equal and fair chance at it. Collaboration between like-minded institutions and exposure to world music for those who are studying this art should be the next step in this direction. There is a need to also raise awareness about the fact that becoming a musician can be as successful a career option as other mainstream options like a teacher, lawyer or engineer. All this can only happen if everyone in the music community joins hands and makes a concentrated effort towards debunking common myths about the profession. The most important thing is to respect music as an art form for what it truly does – bringing people and cultures together.” says Aditya Balani, Director & Founder of Global Music Institute.
