The uproar over CBI action in West Bengal disrupted the proceedings of both the Houses of Parliament today. The Rajya Sabha and Lok Sabha was adjourned till 2 p.m. over the issue. Defended CBI action against Kolkata Police Commissioner, Home Minister Rajnath Singh in Lok Sabha today said, the agency was forced to act as the officer was not cooperating in the Saradha chit fund scam and failed to reply to repeated summons.
He termed the Kolkata Police action against CBI officials as unlawful and unprecedented. Replying to the issue during Zero Hour, Mr Singh said, the CBI officials were stopped from discharging their duties. Mr Singh said there is allegation of nexus between politicians and influential persons in the scam and the agency is probing the matter as per the direction of the Supreme Court.
He described the standoff between the agency and state police as unfortunate. The Minister said, the way the state police acted is a grave threat to federal system of the country. Mr Singh said he has sought a detailed report from West Bengal Governor over the issue. The Minister urged the State Government to allow law enforcement agencies to discharge their duties in a conducive atmosphere.
