The 100-day Education Struggle March of Telangana Vidhya Parirakshana Committee (TVPC), which started from Telangana Martyr’s memorial at Gunpark here on September 14, successfully completed six districts — Jangaon, Warangal Urban, Mahbubnagar, Gadwal and Kamareddy. The second phase of the yatra will commence on October 26 and cover six more districts — Siddipet, Medchal, Bhoopalapally, Bhongir, Jagtial and Khammam by October 28.
Addressing mediapersons here today, Prof. G. Haragopal, Prof. K. Chakradhar Rao, Prof. K. Laxminarayana, Maisa Srinivasulu, PDSU State secretary Boinapally Ramu and others said the aim of the yatra was to involve the parents of children studying in government schools and also students and teachers of colleges and universities in the program. The main demands include allocation of at least 20% of State Budget and 10% of Central Budget for Education, introduction of pre-primary education in all the government schools, developing every high school into a residential school, filling of teaching and non-teaching posts in all government educational institutions at all levels and abolition of Private Universities Bill, withdrawal of UGC circular prohibiting teachers to criticize the policies of administration and government.
In view of the ensuing Assembly elections, the Telangana Save Education Committee (TSEC) appealed to all political parties to include all their demands in their manifestos and promise equitable and quality education to all downtrodden people in the State.
