A US court has given a clean chit to Tata Consultancy Services over claims of anti-American bias. TCS has been alleged of being discriminated for years against American workers in favour of staffing its US offices with Indians. Experts think that the jury verdict is a major victory for the Indian outsourcing industry.
The industry’s business model is quite dependent upon exporting Indian engineers to the US. The former employees that sued the company said TCS follows a “systematic pattern and practice of discrimination” by favouring Indian ex-pats and visa-ready workers from India for US positions.
However, TCS said it hires its employees irrespective of their background or national origin. Indian IT companies, in the past, have been accused of a hiring bias in the US and have gone to trial. HCL Technologies, Infosys and Wipro are among the IT firms facing such claims. Meanwhile, TCS on Wednesday became the most-valued Indian company by market capitalisation following a smart surge in its share price.
