Sushil Chandra has assumed charge as the new Election Commissioner of India in New Delhi on Friday. He is an Indian Revenue Service officer of 1980 batch. Sushil Chandra earlier served as the Principal Chief Commissioner of Income Tax (Pr.CCIT) in Gujarat as well as its Director General (DGIT) of Investigation.
The poll body now has Sunil Arora as Chief Election Commissioner and Ashok Lavasa and Sushil Chandra as Election commissioners. The commission is expected to announce the schedule for the general elections and a clutch of assembly elections over the course of the next few weeks.
