State govt committed to implementing Supreme Court verdict: Kerala CM

The Kerala state government is committed to implementing the Supreme Court verdict lifting curbs on women’s entry into the Sabarimala temple and will not allow anyone to take law into their own hands, according to Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan. Briefing reporters on Tuesday on the decisions taken at a Cabinet meeting in Thiruvananthapuram in the day, Mr Vijayan said the government would give due protection to the faithful.

Referring to reports of a group of women journalists being forced to get down from a bus at Nilkkal, he said no one would be allowed to take law into their own hands. Asked whether the TDB would file a review petition against the verdict, he said the board had the power to take its decisions. But the government had informed the court that it would not pilot legislation and would implement its verdict. The government had proposed to form a panel comprising persons with knowledge of the ritualistic traditions of the temple before implementing the verdict, he said.
