In a significant development, about 1239 migrant workers were sent from Telangana to their home state of Jharkhand.
The train was flagged off from the city on Friday at 4.50 am in the wake of lockdown of Corona pandemic.
The authorities of South Central Railway agreed to Telangana government appeal to press in the special train that started at Lingampally station. It will teach Hatia in Jharkhand state, according to information.
It is first time that the centre has agreed to shift workers to home states on a request made by Telangana government.
According to information, 24564 migrant workers are engaged in Kandhi IIT construction of buildings for some time. Two days ago, they have staged protests at the IIT Kandhi in Sanga Reddy district for salaries and to get back homes.
The workers are from Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha and West Bengal. Earlier, the state government has urged the railways to shift the migrant labourers to their respective home states.
Union railway ministry has given its nod to SCR fir shifting the workers from Telangana state. The government took initiative to shift the workers stranded here due to lockdown. In future similar facility is likely to be made to help shift the workers and students caught up elsewhere in other stated. Already Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh have said to shift their workers stranded in other states.
