SEC issues notification to hold GHMC Elections

The bugle to hold Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) elections has been sounded by the state election commission today. The Commission has released  the schedule of the elections. The Commissioner of the State Election Commission (SEC) Parthasarathi released  schedule.

 Addressing media persons later, He said that they would issue the election notification on Wednesday. He also said that they would hold the elections on December 1 from morning 7 am to evening 6 pm. He also said   that the counting of the votes would be held on December 4 of the same month and added that the results would be declared after the counting of the votes on the same day.  He said that they would hold re-polling on December 3 if required. He said that they would receive nominations in all the 150 divisions of the corporation from Wednesday. The commissioner said that the last date to submit nominations would be November 20. The scrutiny of the nominations would be held on the following day (November 21). The last date for the withdrawal of the nomination papers is November 22,2020 and the list of the final contesting candidates would be published on the same day. 

The Commissioner said that the elections would be held through ballot papers instead of EVMs(Electronic Voting Machines). He said that the GHMC mayor post was reserved for general woman. He also said that the election code of conduct would come into force with immediate effect.  The commissioner further said that  the corporation has a total of 74.04 lakh voters in its limits.

Of this, 35.46 lakh female voters and 38.56 lakh are male voters and 669 are other gender voters . The commission has set up 9248 polling stations in all 150 divisions of the corporation. The commission has primarily decided to use face recognition technology in some polling stations of the corporation. The Mylardevpally division has the most number of voters while Ramachandrpuram division has the least number of voters.
