Salem Consumers forum in Tamilnadu ordered the Railway Dept to pay Rs.32,000 compensation to a passenger who was injured due to rat bite in train. The P.M.K leader Venkatachalam (40) who belonged to Neermullikuttai in Vallappadi mandal in Salem district, travelled in a reservation bogie of the express train that goes to Chennai Egmore from Salem. When he complained to TTE on being bitten by a rat, they answered negligently. He filed a plea in Salem Consumers Forum complaining that he was bitten by a rat in train and he underwent mental torture.
After enquiry, Consumers forum gave the verdict. Forum ordered the Railway Dept in its verdict to pay to the victim Rs.25, 000 for mental torture, Rs.2, 000 for medical expenses, Rs.5,000 for case expenses and a total compensation of Rs.32,000. If not paid, Forum also ordered to add 9% interest from the date of filing the plea.
