Revanth leads all-party agitation against TRS, BJP Govt

Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) President & MP A. Revanth Reddy gave a call for ‘Aakhri Poratam’ (last struggle) to achieve a Telangana which guarantees transparency, social justice and self-rule.

He was addressing the Maha Dharna at Dharna Chowk, Indira Park jointly organized by all opposition parties on Wednesday to protest against the rising inflation, Podu lands issue and anti-people policies of TRS Govt in Telangana and BJP Govt at the Centre. Eminent leaders and thousands of activists belonging to Congress, CPI, CPI (M), TDP, TJS, CPI-ML, Inti Party and New Democracy participated in the dharna.

Revanth Reddy, who began his speech with a Lal Salaam, said that the scene at Dharna Chowk resembled the agitations held to achieve statehood for Telangana. He said although the geographical Telangana has been achieved, the people of Telangana did not get social justice and self-rule. He alleged that the TRS Government was preventing the Tribals from exercising their right to cultivation on Podu lands. He said Tribals were cultivating the Podu lands for decades. Following public movements by the Left and other parties, the then Congress-led UPA Government introduced the Scheduled Tribes and Other Traditional Forest Dwellers (Recognition of Forest Rights) Act, 2006 to grant cultivation rights to the tribals. However, the TRS Government was canceling those Pattas and such lands were illegally being acquired in the name of Haritha Haram or projects like Mallanna Sagar or Pharma City.

The TPCC Chief alleged that the TRS Government was harassing those who are doing cultivation on Podu lands. He said that the atrocities by TRS Govt have crossed all the limits and Tribals were being implicated in falses cases. Introducing a woman on the dais with a three-month-old baby girl, he informed that the baby girl was implicated in a false case and sent to jail on charges of ‘dacoity’.

“What sin did this three-month-old girl commit?” he asked while adding that her only mistake was that she was born during a dictatorial regime of Chief Minister K. Chandrashekhar Rao. “Telangana was formed for the benefit of 4 crore people. But only in four members of KCR family have enslaved the ‘Telangana Talli’ and it needs to be liberated with an ‘Aakhri Poratam’. This brutal regime is not even sparing the small children and sending them to jail,” he said.

Revanth slammed Prime Minister Narender Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah for being mute spectators to the irregularities, corruption, scams and misrule of KCR Govt. He said that the BJP Govt at the Centre was an equal partner along with TRS Govt in adding miseries to the lives of common people. He said both BJP and TRS Govt were responsible for the rising inflation. “The cost of petrol and diesel have crossed Rs. 100 per litre almost in all places. Although the actual price must be around Rs. 35, including the transportation, the BJP-TRS Govts were collecting nearly Rs. 65 towards taxes while burdening the common man,” he said.

The TPCC Chief ridiculed PM Modi for questioning what the Congress party did for the country in the last 70 years. “Modi claims that he had sold tea at a railway station. That railway station was constructed by the Congress Government. Further, even the railway line and trains were brought by the Congress Government,” he said.

Reddy said that the demonetisation of Rs. 1,000 and Rs. 500 currency notes brought by the Modi Government in November 2016 had crushed the entire economy. While the move did not bring back any hidden black money, as claimed by PM Modi, common people lost their savings and crores of jobs were lost bringing the entire economy to its knees. After destroying the country’s economy through demonetisation, the Modi Govt has now brought ‘monetisation’ to sell away the country’s assets, he said.

“Modi Govt is selling off public assets like roads, railway lines, railway stations, airports, ports and institutions like BDL, IDPL, LIC, etc., to private companies to raise Rs. 6 lakh crore. While the previous Congress Govt created huge public assets and dedicated them to the nation, Modi Govt is shamelessly selling off those assets and dedicating them to Adanis and Ambanis. Congress Prime Minister Indira Gandhi nationalised banks and other institutions. But Modi Govt is handing over such institutions to private companies. BJP Govt is pursuing the policy of ‘Hum Do, Hamare Do’. While ‘Hum Do’ stands for Modi and Amit Shah, ‘Hamare Do’ is Ambani and Adani,” he said while adding that these policies of BJP Govt were no different from the policy of East India Company to plunder India.

Similarly, Revanth Reddy said that KCR has given away lands worth thousands of crores in Poppulaguda, Kokapet, Narsing and other places to his relatives. Now the time has come to stop those practices by BJP and TRS Govts, he said.

Revanth said that the present situation in Telangana and the entire country warrants a joint struggle by all those who believe in democracy and self-rule. “All opposition parties participating in this dharna have joined hands to defend the people’s rights. Our unity is not for the elections or votes. People must understand the necessity and circumstances which brought all opposition parties together. As a member of Telangana’s society, it is our duty to protect the rights of the people,” he said.

Support Bharat bandh program

The TPCC Chief appealed to the people to support the Bharat Bandh on September 27. He said nearly 20 opposition parties, under the leadership of Congress president Sonia Gandhi, have come together to protest against the anti-people policies of BJP Govt which are responsible for rising inflation, unemployment and other problems. He said all sections of the society must support the Bharat Bandh to convey a strong message that they won’t tolerate the burden being imposed upon them by the BJP Govt further.

He directed all 33 DCC Presidents in Telangana to convene meetings with leaders of other opposition parties in their respective districts and ensure the success of Bharat Bandh on September 27 in their respective districts. He said they should organise protests near Ambedkar Statue in their district headquarters and submit memorandums to the District Collectors.
