Intermediate second-year examinations that commenced on Thursday saw over 10,000 students’ absences. A total of 4,52,028 second-year students registered for the second language paper – II and 4,40,513 appeared in the 1,532 centres arranged by the Telangana Board of Intermediate Education across the State.
During the examination four malpractice cases with three in Jagtial alone and one in Nizamabad were booked. According to officials, malpractice cases have been booked against three students for carrying written material into the examination hall. Flying squads and a special observers team deployed by the Board caught students and booked cases against them.
“We have not been informed where students hid the written material. But, the flying squad and special observers team caught them during the exam. If students had written answers from the material, then they would not be allowed to appear for further examinations,” an official said.
According to TG BIE, observers from the Board were sent to examination centres in Sangareddy, Medak, Jagtial, Bhongir, Rangareddy and Medchal district. They reported that the examination was conducted smoothly and peacefully, without any untoward incidents, the BIE said.
Meanwhile, some students lamented about the lack of basic facilities such as a wall block in the examination halls. Students said while the Board prohibited wearing a wrist watch for the examinations, there were no wall clocks in the halls, causing significant inconvenience to them to know the remaining exam duration.
They alleged that the bell, which was supposed to be rung every half-hour as per Board instructions, did not ring, and they failed to ascertain the time left for the examination.
Students also alleged that writing pads and water bottles were too barred from carrying in some centres. They also lamented about poor infrastructure such as benches and chairs in some centres, causing significant problems while appearing for the examination.
