NIA raids 5 places in Coimbatore after info about presence of IS module

The apex anti-terror investigation agency NIA is making searches at five locations in Coimbatore since yesterday. On getting credible information about the presence of an Islamic State-inspired module in the city, the sleuths of the NIA from Kochi swooped down on the residences of the five suspects, that is currently on.

The raids by the NIA yesterday comes close on the heels of the police tightening security in and around Coimbatore last week, following intelligence inputs about the intrusion of six terrorists affiliated to the terrorist organization Lashkar-e-Taiba.

The locations of yesterday’s searches include Ukkadam, Kuniamuthur and Bilal Estates in the industrial city. The properties were raided a few weeks ago also by the security agencies on suspicion of terrorist activities. Based on fresh inputs about a suspected IS-inspired module, the raids have been resumed yesterday.
