Mehul Choksi will be extradited, Indian officials free to interrogate: Antigua PM

Prime Minister of Antigua and Barbuda Gaston Browne has said that fugitive diamantaire Mehul Choksi would be extradited to India once he exhausts his legal options. Talking to media persons in New York last night, Mr Browne said, Indian investigators are free to come and interrogate Choksi, an accused in the PNB scam. Choksi fled the country and took citizenship of Antigua and Barbuda after the PNB scam came to light.

Three months back, Antigua Prime Minister Gaston Browne had confirmed Mehul Choksi’s citizenship will be revoked. PM Browne said that Choksi’s Antigua and Barbuda citizenship will be revoked soon.

“His citizenship was processed; he got through but the reality is his citizenship will be revoked and he will be repatriated to India; so there is recourse. It’s not a case that we are trying to provide any safe harbor for criminals, for those who are involved in financial crimes,” the prime minister was quoted as saying.
