Popular Malayalam film actor Kollam Ajith, 56, known for essaying negative roles, died this morning at a private hospital in Kochi, family sources said.
Family sources said, Ajith has admitted to the hospital in Kochi 10 days ago due to health issues.
Ajith, in a career, spread over three decades, acted in at least 500 Malayalam, Tamil, and Hindi films.
His first film, Paranu Paranu Paranu, in 1984 was a hit. It was directed by Padmarajan.
His role in Irupathaam Noottaandu (1987), starring Mohanlal, was a success. Since then, Ajit was the first choice for villain roles.
Ajith’s mortal remains will be taken to Kollam, where the last rites would be performed today.
