Famous Historian and author, Professor Rajmohan Gandhi said that Mahatma Gandhiji though known mostly as a freedom fighter, is a great writer and continued writing till his last breath. The grandson of Mahatma Gandhi, Prof. Rajmohan Gandhi’s latest book ‘Modern South India: A History from the 17th Century to Our Times,’ was released at the inaugural function of the 30th Vijayawada Book Festival held at Swaraj Maidan, Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh, last night.
Addressing the gathering after inaugurating the Book Festival, Professor Gandhi said that south India is distinct from other parts of the country and has largely been forgotten in history writing and other writings about our country in the last several decades. Prof. Gandhi further added that Books are the mines of knowledge and Book reading is a great habit.
Deputy Assembly Speaker Mandali Buddha Prasad presided over the function. Telugu writer K. Enoch, Mayor Koneru Sreedhar, Collector B. Lakshmikantham, Mr Rajmohan Gandhi’s wife Usha, and Hyderabad Book Fair Society president J. Gowrishankar were among those present.
