India pledges to produce carbon-free energy: Vice President Venkaiah Naidu

Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu says India has pledged to produce carbon-free energy. In this direction, a target has been set to produce 175-gigawatt of non-conventional new energy till 2022. Of this, 100-gigawatt will be solar power, 60-gigawatt wind power and 15-gigawatt will be linked to other non-conventional sources.

Mr Naidu was speaking after inaugurating the 6th International Exhibition and Conference GRIDTECH 2019 in New Delhi. Mr Naidu said the country is planning to develop solar cities and urban local bodies should be in the forefront to adopt renewable energy technologies.

He added that there is a need to promote sustainability, clean and green mode of transport, and in this direction, electric vehicles are being encouraged.
