India beat Bangladesh by 28 runs in the league match at Edgbaston, Birmingham in the ICC Cricket World Cup. Earlier, electing to bat first, India scored 314 for 9 in the stipulated 50 overs. Rohit Sharma and K.L.Rahul opened India’s innings briskly to take the score to 180 when Rahul fell for 77. With his 104 today, Rohit Sharma became the first Indian cricketer to score 4 tons in a World Cup.
He also surpassed Australia’s David Warner to become the leading run-getter in the ongoing World Cup, amassing 544 runs so far as against Warner’s 516. This was also Rohit Sharma’s 26th ODI ton today which equalled Kumar Sangakkara’s record of scoring most runs in a World Cup edition.
Dinesh Karthik made his World Cup debut in this match, replacing Kedar Jadhav while Bhuvneshwar Kumar is in for Kuldeep Yadav. For Bangladesh, Mustafizur Rahman scalped 5 wickets. India enters the semi-finals. Bangladesh bowed out of the semi-final race.
