People today were in an upbeat mood after Article 370 was abolished in Jammu Division of Jammu and Kashmir. Soon after Union Home Minister Amit Shah made an announcement about scrapping Article 370, people in some parts of Jammu District took to the streets to celebrate the historic decision. In Udhampur also people came out in large numbers and started celebrations.
The State Unit of BJP welcomed the decision on Article 370 of the Constitution, saying people are thankful to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for mitigating their pain. Meanwhile, the situation in Jammu Division remained by and large normal with no untoward incident being reported.
Ladakh is today celebrating the historic day after the announcement of UT status for the region. The demand for UT status for Ladakh has a history of over 30 years. Immediately after the announcement, people have gathered in big numbers at Leh Main Bazaar.
