Guru Purnima being celebrated across country today

Guru Purnima being celebrated across country today

Today on the occasion of Guru Purnima, thousands of devotees express their gratitude towards their gurus for enlightenment. The auspicious day of Guru Purnima has a great significance as everybody knows that the role of a Guru in real life is very much important.  A guru is considered to be the person who removes all darkness from our lives and brings light. It is believed that Lord Buddha had given his first sermon on this day. After achieving enlightenment under the bodhi tree, he had travelled to Sarnath from Bodhgaya and had given his sermon on the full moon day.

Thus, his followers worship him on this day. Guru Poornima is also called as Vyasa Poornima because this is dedicated to the Adiguru Veda Vyasa. This is being celebrated on Aashadha Purnima. KRISHNA DVAIPAYANA VYASA is the one who has segregated the Vedas into four. Rig Veda, Yajur Veda, Sama Veda and Atharvana Veda. He is the one who has written the Asthadasa Puranas. He also wrote Maha Bharata in which the Bhagavad Gita is a part.

Vyasa is the first Guru who has been equated with Maha Vishnu. Let us remember and prostrate before him on this auspicious day before doing anything else. According to what Indian Shastra says, the word Guru is derived from two Sanskrit words “Gu” and “Ru” of which the former means ignorance and darkness in a person and the latter means someone who removes that darkness from the person. Several programs and cultural performances are organised by spiritual organisations on this day.
