GHMC Poll Promises: Where from Cong, BJP get Huge Funds?

GHMC elections

The GHMC election manifestos released by different political parties have become the subject matter of intense discussions in political and social circles now-a-days.  Many expressed surprise at the tall promises made by the Congress on one hand and the BJP on the other,  as they  required very huge funds and some were beyond the domain of the GHMC.

Some sections pointed out that the TRS can afford to make promises involving huge funds as it in power in the State and the Government can provide the required funds in addition to the GHMC resources.  But,  the same is not the case with the Congress and the BJP.

The Congress is not in power either in the State or at the Centre and hence it could not look for funds from these sources to fulfill the promises made. The TPCC President Uttam Kumar Reddy’s contention that since huge funds are coming to the State Exchequer from GHMC, funds to that extent should be given to the civic body,  is not practicable,  as agriculture,  power,  health,  education and many other sectors need funds on priority basis.

Same is the case with BJP. Though the party is in power at the Centre, one could not expect the Centre to release huge funds needed to fulfill the promises. Many pointed out in this context that it is futile to expect the Centre to release huge funds to GHMC, considering the facts relating to release of funds to the State Government during the past six years.  While rains and floods caused extensive havoc in the GHMC areas one month back and the state government sought funds to provide immediate succor to the victims,  the Centre failed to do so,  and this makes it clear that it is futile to expect huge funds from the Centre to fulfill the Poll promises made by the BJP. Also, the Centre could not show extra love towards one Municipal Corporation just because BJP is in power there.

Political parties might feel that the people are gullible and they could be easily carried away by making tall promises.  But,  the people are not ignorant.   When this journalist spoke to an auto driver, he clearly stated that if Congress or the BJP   get majority in the GHMC elections,  they would never be able to fulfill the promises they made in their manifesto.
