South Africa skipper Faf du Plessis won the toss and opted to field. The hosts posted a total of 311 runs on the back of half-centuries by Jason Roy, Joe Root, Eoin Morgan and Ben Stokes.
The Proteas failed to make their presence felt after being handed a target of 312 runs, barring fighting half-centuries by opener Quinton de Kock and Rassie van der Dussen. Pace-bowler Jofra Archer was the leading wicket-taker with three wickets while Liam Plunkett and Ben Stokes accounted for two wickets apiece.
