The death toll in the Assam hooch tragedy has gone up to 89. A senior State Home department official said, most of the deaths have been reported in Golaghat district, while people have also lost their lives in Jorhat. Golaghat Deputy Commissioner said, several people are still undergoing treatment and some more have also been admitted.
10 culprits have been arrested so far at Golaghat and Jorhat districts. Health minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has visited Jorhat Medical College and hospital where several patients are undergoing treatment.
A team of specialist doctors is being deployed in Golaghat. The Police and Excise department are conducting raids against spurious liquor. Several senior officials are camping at Jorhat and Golaghat to monitor the situation.
