On Thursday afternoon a King Air C90 charter aircraft crashed in Ghatkopar, the congested central suburbs of Mumbai.
According to BMC disaster control room, 5 people have died in the tragedy. 4 people on board the ill-fated aircraft and one pedestrian in the ground are dead.
The source said that around 1.30 pm the aircraft crashed onto an under-construction building called Jagruti. The aircraft was less than 3 km away from Mumbai airport main runway 27 when it crashed.
The fire brigade said, “The 12-seater aircraft (VT-UPZ) had four occupants, one pilot and three passengers. Two charred bodies have been recovered from the site.”
He added that three fire engine one jumbo water tanker is currently on the site.
An aviation source said that the aircraft belongs to the Mumbai-based company, U Y Aviation Pvt Ltd and is owned by gutkha baron Dipak Kothari. The source added,”It’s an old aircraft which earlier belonged to the UP government.”
