In a first of its kind decision, the Calcutta High Court has directed the State Election Commission to treat the nine independent candidates’ nomination papers that were filed on WhatsApp as valid to contest the upcoming Panchayat elections in West Bengal.
The move comes after several opposition parties alleged that TMC workers assaulted their candidates in several districts for filing nominations for the polls.
