We welcome the government’s increased focus on the education sector with several noteworthy announcements in the budget today. It is encouraging to witness the government’s commitment towards balancing the urban-rural digital divide through the establishment of Atal Tinkering Labs in government schools, enabling students to engage in innovative learning that fosters creativity and curiosity. This initiative will ensure that Indian students have a fair chance on the global playing field. The establishment of the Centre of Excellence in AI for Education, will further nurture skill development and foster innovation among students. Such investments are crucial for preparing students to thrive in a digital-first world and ensuring equitable access to quality education. The reduction of interest rates on education loans will also help alleviate financial strain, enabling better access to education. The Bharat Net project aimed at expanding broadband connectivity to all government secondary and primary schools will play a critical role in improving access to quality education and academic excellence, particularly in rural areas, ensuring equal access for all. The increased infrastructure funding and allocation of additional seats in IITs and medical institutes will further strengthen STEM education, providing greater opportunities for students and ensuring access to world-class institutions for a larger pool of talented youth. These efforts will enhance the quality of education and prepare students to succeed in emerging fields, contributing to India’s growth in the global economy.
