A group of BRS party leaders, led by its working president KTR today met with Union minister Dharmendra Pradhan to discuss about UGC draft rules and submitted a memorandum to him. Later, the team met with Union minister Nitin Gadkari and urged him to extend national highway 365B to Suryapet-Sircilla road up to Korutla.
Speaking to media persons later, he alleged that the rights of States were being taken away in the name of the UGC regulations. “The new rules will hurt the students. We have met Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan to convey our views. It is against the spirit of the Constitution that the Centre is controlling the responsibility of search committees related to the appointment of VCs in State universities through State governors.
The Rules have been framed to hand over the responsibility of search committees to the Governor. Acting in such a way that undermines the spirit of federalism,” he said. He alleged that the Centre wants to take over the universities through the State governors and added that with the new rules, injustice would be done to SC, ST and BC students. “A six-page report on objections to the UGC regulations has been submitted to the Union Minister. We have requested the minister to amend the rules. We have told him not to take any decision against the spirit of federalism,” he said.
KTR also said they had requested Union Minister Nitin Gadkari to extend national highway 365B. Commenting on the turncoat MLAs of the party, he said all the MLAs, who have defected to the ruling Congress party should be sacked. “We are in talks with lawyers on the disqualification petitions,” he added.
