India bowled out hosts Australia for 326 in their first innings on the second day of the second Test at the brand new Optus Stadium today. Australia began at 277 for six and could add 49 runs to their overnight total. Tim Paine led from the front, combining a couple of well-timed boundaries and cheeky singles to march his team to 6-306 at the morning drinks break.
The topsy-turvy nature of the contest continued when Paine and Cummins departed soon after in the space of three balls, for 38 and 19 respectively. Marcus Harris (70) top-scored for the hosts while paceman Ishant Sharma (4/41) took four wickets for India. It is Sharma’s best Test haul in Australia.
Sharma claimed the last two Australian wickets off successive balls and will be on a hat-trick when he will bowl in the second Australian innings. India have won the first test at Adelaide by 31 runs. India lead the four-match series 1-0.
