Senior Congress leader Ashok Gehlot was on Monday sworn in as the Chief Minister of Rajasthan at a ceremony in Jaipur, while Sachin Pilot took oath as a cabinet minister. It is the third term of Mr Gehlot as Chief Minister of the state. Governor Kalyan Singh administered the oath of office and secrecy to both the leaders in the ceremony organised before the historic Albert Hall.
After this, the governor appointed Mr Pilot deputy chief minister of the state as per the suggestion of Chief Minister. Several leaders from Congress and its alliance partners from across the country including Former Prime Ministers Manmohan Singh and H. D. Devegauda and Congress President Rahul Gandhi attended the ceremony.
Mr Gehlot served as central minister and President of State Congress Committee for three times. In Madhya Pradesh, senior Congress leader Kamalnath was sworn in as the 18th Chief Minister of the state. The nine-time Chhindwara Lok Sabha MP was administered the oath of office by Governor Anandiben Patel at the Jamboree Maidan in Bhopal. Congress President Rahul Gandhi, former PM Manmohan Singh and senior leaders of various political parties were present during the ceremony.
Kamal Nath took oath alone. Cabinet will be formed later after the consultations with party leadership. The Congress has staged a comeback in power in the state after 15 years winning 114 of the 230 Assembly seats for which elections were held on November 28. The party also enjoys the support of allies BSP, SP members and four Independents.
