Jubilee Hills constituency arranged in the core of Hyderabad turned into an epicentre of discussions. Navyamedia has conducted a political survey in various places in Jubilee Hills assembly segment. When we look at the history, we see that the old Khairatabad constituency was divided into three new MLA constituencies named as Jubilee Hills, Kukatpally, Khairatabad. In Jubilee Hills, TDP’s victorious candidate Moganti Gopinath in 2014 race later joined TRS. This time around, TRS has given the ticket to sitting MLA Gopinath.
He was with TDP since its launch in 1983 and is mainly a film producer. The sitting TRS MLA is battling an anti-incumbency wave in the segment. He hopes that the people will support him because of the welfare and developmental schemes of the TRS government undertaken for the past four years.
On the other hand, Congress candidate P Vishnuvardhan Reddy, son of late P Janardhan Reddy was given a ticket this time too. Vishnuvardhan had won the seat in 2009 elections. He hopes that the enormous goodwill of his father among the locals may help him sail through.Vishnuvardhan launched a blistering attack on TRS saying the present MLA has failed to take up any developmental activity. Vishnuvardhan and Moganti Gopinath have begun vigorous campaigning in the constituency.
Jubilee Hills constituency also has a number of civic issues. Some of the localities that are part of the constituency include Srinagar Colony, Borabanda, Shaikpet, Yousufguda and Vengal Rao Nagar. Some hut dwellers who don’t have proper shelter claim that they deserve 2BHK housing which has remained a dream for years. Some of these basti residents felt they are troubled by their affluent neighbours who find their presence in the locality, a nuisance.
We have complained innumerable times in the past to every official and leader concerned but to no avail, they said. While another resident, Krishnaiah of Karmika Nagar, shares his daily ordeal that a promise to set up drinking water supply connections to the basti also remains unfulfilled. Some of the residents complain about the unhygienic conditions prevailing in the area as a result of the daily activities of the slum dwellers in Karmika Nagar, Rahamat Nagar, Borabanda.
The constituency is also home to a large number of local and migrant workers who reside in Karmika Nagar, Sriram Nagar and adjoining localities. 45 per cent of minority voters are there in the constituency. Presently, there are seven Municipal Corporators who come under the Jubilee Hills MLA. Out of these seven, four candidates come from the minority community. Also in the last election of 2014, MIM party got the 2nd position with around 40,000 votes, supporting the argument of high minority votes.
The major parties TRS and Congress are concentrating to get support in middle class and upper-middle class localities like Srinagar Colony, Vengal Rao Nagar, Madhuranagar and Kamalapuri Colony. The parties are also pinning their hopes on their traditional vote banks. Let’s wait and watch who will be chosen by the people of Jubilee Hills Assembly Constituency in the forthcoming elections.
