TEC seminar on “UGC Regulations – Indifference in State Universities” from Feb. 6

Telangana Education Commission (TEC) is convening a seminar “UGC Regulations – Indifference in State Universities” with eminent educationists in the city to deliberate over the implications of draft UGC Regulations 2025 put in public domain by the University Grants Commission seeking views of the public.

The seminar will be held on February 6 from 2pm to 5.30pm at the Godavari Conference Hall, Ground Floor, Rajiv Vidya Mission Building, SCERT Campus, Basheerbagh, Hyderabad.

The draft regulations have led to a nation-wide debate on the boundaries within which Central agencies like the UGC must function if autonomy of universities is to be ensured, and the rights of State governments under the federal structure of the Constitution are to be respected. Several States like Tamil Nadu and Kerala have already taken a public view and passed resolutions in the respective assemblies raising objections to the proposed guidelines.

While a range of issues are being debated, the two most significant, contentious issues are about the mode of appointment prescribed for the selection of Vice-Chancellors of all universities across the country, and entry level recruitment process and requirements for Assistant professors.

Akunuri Murali, Chairperson, Telangana Education Commission, will preside over the Seminar. The Telangana Education Commission hopes that the deliberations at the proposed seminar will provide further insights into the draft regulations and their long-term implications for higher education in the country.
