Supreme Court panel declares public health emergency in Delhi-NCR

Supreme Court issues notice to states, asks report on air, water quality

A Supreme Court mandated panel today declared a public health emergency in the Delhi-NCR region and banned all the construction activity till 5th November. In a letter written to Chief Secretaries of Uttar Pradesh, Haryana and Delhi, EPCA chairperson Bhure Lal said air quality in Delhi-NCR in a severe category. He said, this situation must be taken as public health emergency as air pollution will have adverse health impact on all, particularly our children.

Parents are worried a lot as health experts say children breathe faster, taking in more pollutants. In view of the air pollution and its effects on children, the Delhi government has decided to shut all schools till November 5. As pollution level in the region entered the “severe plus” category, the Environment Pollution (Prevention and Control) Authority also banned the bursting of crackers during the winter season.
