International Yoga Day today: PM Modi participates in mega event in Ranchi

Kick-starting the global celebrations marking International Yoga Day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi led the nation by participating in a mega event in Ranchi on Friday. Setting the stage for International Yoga Day, which is being celebrated on a global scale from 2015, PM Modi has been sharing an asan a day on social media urging people to join the movement. President Ram Nath Kovind participated in the Yoga day event organised at the Rashtrapati Bhavan.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr Kovind said, yoga is India’s gift to humanity and it holds the key to healthy living and to that fine balance between mind and body. Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu participated in the Yoga Day celebrations organised by Brahma Kumaris at Red Fort. Speaker of Lok Sabha Om Birla practised Yoga along with MPs in the Parliament House complex.

The main event in the city was held at Rajpath, where Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Information and Broadcasting Minister Prakash Javadekar, Culture and Tourism Minister Prahlad Singh Patel, Minister of State for Food Processing Industries Rameshwar Teli, Delhi Lieutenant Governor Anil Baijal, Chief Minister of Goa Dr Pramod Sawant and Chief Minister of Sikkim Prem Singh Tamang practised Yoga with over 15 thousand people.
