As the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) led by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and its lead campaigner Prime Minister Narendra Modi proceed to a landslide victory on the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, international leaders have already begun congratulating their Indian counterpart at his party’s stellar performance in the general elections.
With exit polls predicting a clean sweep for the saffron party and its allies, celebrations have broken out in and around BJP offices across India. Sri Lankan President Maithripala Sirisena, Isreali Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu took to Twitter to congratulate Prime Minister Modi on his return to power.
Chinese President Xi Jinping, Japanese Prime Minister Abe Shinzo and President of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan Ashraf Ghani have also congratulated PM Modi on the electoral victory under his leadership.
