A court in the UK today remanded fugitive diamond merchant Nirav Modi to further custody till May 24th. The court was hearing his extradition case in connection with the 13,500-crore rupees Punjab National Bank fraud. He was arrested last month and is currently lodged in a prison in London.
He appeared before the Westminster Magistrates’ Court via videolink from jail. The hearing on May 24 will be a procedural one to meet the 28-day timeline for judicial custody in such cases in UK. The case will then proceed to a full case management hearing where Modi will be produced in person.
