The second summit between North Korea and the United States began in the Vietnamese capital, Hanoi on Wednesday. US President Donald Trump shook hands with North Korean leader Kim Jong–Un at the start of their talks. Trump told the media that the Korean state can enjoy a brilliant future if it gives up nuclear weapons.
In a brief sit-down ahead of one-on-one talks, Trump repeated his view that North Korea had tremendous economic potential. For his part, Kim pledged to do his best to achieve an outcome that will be welcomed by all people.
The meeting today will be followed by an informal dinner. The talks are scheduled to resume tomorrow. The talks come eight months after their historic summit in Singapore in June last year, the first between a sitting US President and a North Korean leader.
