The US government shutdown looks set to continue into the new year after both chambers of Congress adjourned on Thursday without a deal being reached over funding for President Trump’s controversial proposed border wall. Neither Donald Trump nor the Democrats in Congress are showing any signs of backing down over spending for the proposed US-Mexico border wall.
Both the Senate and House of Representatives met on Thursday, but the agreement to end the dispute could not be reached. The dispute began after Trump demanded a federal funding bill provide $5billion for wall construction. This demand was accepted by the House, but rejected by the Senate where some Democrat support would be needed to pass the bill.
